Grey Group’s Active Threat Response – Unarmed program combines lecture-based instruction with hands-on practical training designed specifically for civilian and workplace environments.
This training is ideal for businesses, corporations, churches, government facilities, HR teams, and safety committees seeking professional, defensible preparation without fear-based messaging.
Course Overview
This active threat response training program blends structured classroom instruction with guided, hands-on practicals. Participants learn how to assess situations, make informed decisions, and apply realistic response options during active shooter or violent threat events.
The course emphasizes unarmed response strategies, recognizing that most employees and civilians will not have access to defensive tools during an emergency.
Seminar Objectives

Hands-On Practical Training
- Barricading doors and reinforcing rooms
- Coordinated group response and room defense concepts
- Use of improvised defensive tools such as fire extinguishers
- Unarmed attacker control and disruption techniques
- Hasty and improvised tourniquet application
HOST REQUIREMENTS
Hosting this training provides organizations with convenient, on-site active threat response training that improves preparedness, reduces risk, and strengthens workplace safety culture.

Training Area
Practical exercises are most effective when they closely mirror your actual work environment and office layout.
Fire Extinguishers
We demonstrate how a standard fire extinguisher can be used as a distraction tool during an active threat response, with a recommended availability of two to four extinguishers for training.
Training Tourniquets
Optional training tourniquets may be used if the organization already has them; otherwise, Grey Group will provide tourniquets for the training.
Format & Delievery
Approximately 3 hours: one-hour lecture and two hours hands-on.
Because this course includes hands-on skill development and environment-specific training, it is delivered exclusively in person.
Lecture and hands-on practicals
